Baltimore County is the site of Loch Raven Reservoir and Gunpowder Falls.
The Historical Society of Baltimore County (HSBC) is located in a historic almshouse in Cockeysville, Maryland. The society is home to thousands of library volumes, historic photographs, research vertical files, cultural artifacts, genealogy files, and hundreds of maps, microfilm, archival and manuscript collections, and tombstone inscription files. Along with over 30 local partners, HSBC will host public programs, develop complementary exhibits, and facilitate educational initiatives to raise people’s understanding of what water means to the community.
The Historical Society of Baltimore County's water-themed exhibits will describe the historical record of our community’s relationship with water. We will examine the historical context of our region’s interactions with water, share community stories, and describe the relevance of our past actions to our lives today, built around three themes: harnessing, engineering, and balancing.
